One sketch prompt from Sketch A Day app was Clash, so I sketched the portrait of Joe Strummer, the singer and guitariste from the Clash. I used a reference photo from a gig where he is singing.

Starting with the usual, I sketched this portrait using my graphite pencils Jumbo 9000 on my A4 sketchbook. I blended the dark values using a blending stump, and the highlight with a Tombow mono eraser. A little difference in this sketch, is that I also used my Derwent eraser which is batterie operated. It is very good, but on some other drawing, it made some black marks, I don’t know why. Since then, I changed the rubber eraser part and make sure I don’t tilt the eraser in a funny way, and it doesn’t let mark anymore. I have not used it recently as I didn’t need to do big highlight area, but it is still in my arsenal of sketching tools.

I am continuing to update the list of portrait I sketched so you can see them by clicking on their links: Jimi Hendrix, Fern Brady, Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, Benjamin Zephaniah, Sanjeev Bhaskar as DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher, Bill Skarsgård’s as The Crow, James May, Emily Campbell, and Henry Cavill.
