Sketch of an Atlantic bluefin tuna

According to the United Nations, today, 2nd May 2025 is World Tuna Day. This month (May) is also Animal month at The Addictive Sketcher Movement so drawing a tuna fit perfectly with both topics!

During my lunch pause, I took the opportunity to draw this Atlantic bluefin tuna. I am not sure about the type of tuna, because the Unsplash photo I used as a reference as the tag bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), but also shark. I don’t know my tuna species but it seems likely. If you know, let me know in the comment or via my social media (Instagram, X/Twitter, Bluesky, or Cara). I also have a Facebook page, but I need to rethink it as I have previous old pages related to other craft I did and probably want to merge them if I can.

This time, in addition to using my 2B Faber-Castell Jumbo 9000 pencil, I used a Derwent Graphic 7H pencil to sketch the outline of the drawing before using the 2B graphite pencil. I then use a blending stumps to merge and blend the graphite. Because I wanted to have some part darker, I also used my recently purchased 10B Faber-Castell graphite pencil. I actually bought the set of 3 graphite pencils: 10B, 12B and 14B when I want very dark black that can’t be achieved with my 8B (the highest of the Jumbo 9000). I finally used the Tombow mono eraser for couple of highlight, or a Faber-Castell dust free rubber to erase some initial sketch marks I wasn’t happy with. The drawing was done on this A5 200gr sketchbook, I really love spiraled bound and pre-perforated paper, when I finish to draw on both side I save them in my binder.
