I recently followed Blu Blue course Sketch & Snack: Watercolor Desserts for Beginners to learn to paint snacks, desserts, drinks, but actually any food and beverage, using watercolour. The lessons are excellent and well explained.
I started first by following the free workshop where we painted a bun. As I enjoyed the workshop and the way Blu Blue explain watercolour techniques, I paid the full courses. I have done all the assignment of each modules.
I chose to paint a pain au chocolat, I struggled to do the layer effect, but actually I did it just before the lesson on how to paint pastry and lamination.
I then tried to paint a flan patissier (also known as flan Parisien), but the supposedly shinning effect on the top ended very crumbly as I have no clue what happened. I don’t know whether it was the paint pigment or the paper, but it crumbled.
I enjoyed painting a rose kulfi (Indian ice cream) with pistachio, in overall, I am happy with it.
I struggle painting a salmon toast. It is difficult to paint salmon and cream. While I was happy for my level, I started to add the green herbs and unfortunately I totally spoiled the painting by adding fat blob of green. I tried to correct it but it ended up worst.
Last assignment of the course (not including the bonus module) was to paint a food in motion, so I painted the pouring of crêpe batter, from which I am happy with the pouring effect.
Finally, the last assignment was from a bonus lesson on painting Ghibli food.

#ads: All Amazon affiliation links in this article are items I really bought and used.
To paint all of these assignments I use my new set of watercolour from Winsor and Newton on a Hobbycraft watercolour postcard paper. I first used rubbish paint brushes to then switch to The Army Painter brushes. For the Ghibli food painting, I also used my Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen fineliners.
I am really looking forward the next Blu Blue lesson this year!
