Long time ago, in 2016, I started do to wire weaving using copper wires because I really like the look of it. I don’t wear jewelry, yet I like to make them using wire weaving techniques. It is only very recently that I have started to do wire weaving again. To be honest, I haven’t done much in the past, but as I am restructuring a bit my blogs, I am taking this opportunity to showcase previous projects already posted in my other craft blog Inside Uranus (in French), here on Capybara Monster and in English.

My first project was the double helix of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) using this 28 Gauge (0.3mm) copper wire to wrap it around this 20 Gauge (0.8mm) copper wire as the base wire. The wrapping and weaving motions is done by hand, but a basic set of 3 pliers (wire cutter, chain nose pliers, and round nose pliers) are needed in the process of making jewelry or any project requiring wire weaving.
We can clearly see that the DNA helix is not well wire weaved as it was my first time. The weaving is not consistent, I didn’t had good tension on the wrapping wire, and I didn’t tighten properly all weaves. Basically, it doesn’t look good, but it was my first one, and I had fun doing it.

At the time, I followed this excellent YouTube tutorial. This video taught me the very basic of wire weaving.
