I like small leather projects to test things and this time, I tested a dying technique using foam while making a leather viking drinking horn holder. I think I got the pattern from Dark Horse Workshop but somehow I can’t find the pattern on the website. I might have got it via his Patreon, as I am a subscriber.

I used this video tutoriel to learn how to do this dying effect and I used 3 different leather dye colors (Fiebing’s pro Red and Green, and Angelus Purple). It didn’t look as nice as I wanted but it is matter of experimenting with the swirl and the dying time, etc. What I will probably only use 2 colors in the futur rather than 3. It is surprisingly hard to find shaving foam (cheap ones and not scented) in supermarket, so I bought mine on Amazon.

I also practiced tooling like usual by using a design from the book Viking Art from Northern Black. The leather is bought from JW Wood Leathers except for the straps that I bought already cut from Leather4Craft. I antiqued the design with Fiebings antique medium brown and used the usual treatment/finisher trio: neatsfoot oil, resolene and tokonole.
