My first complex leather project is an amazing leather coffin bag designed by LeatherHub Pattern. I use this bag each time I go out when I need a bag. The bag is big, it only has one compartment and it is a bit tricky to get very big items inside because the zipper doesn’t open wide but it never stopped me to put cans of drinks and other big objects, it is just a bit fiddly to retrieve objects from it.
I adore LeatherHub Patterns and I bought few of them so watch this blog or the Capybara Monster facebook page to see my leather project progression.
I cut this pattern by hand and it is when I realised that I need a leather laser cutter, which I since bought because it was a lot of cutting work of small and big parts. It took me ages and cutting leather is the least interesting part of leathercrafting.

The pattern is well made and simple to follow despite having few fiddly area to sew. I also learn how to add a zipper to a leather project. I could have added a skull or a bat on the front part of the coffin but I decided to stick with the skull.
[#ads: All Amazon affiliation links in this article are items I really bought and used in my leathercraft].
For this project I use the usual leather thickness of about 2-2.4mm I buy from J Wood Leathers and I used Fiebing’s Pro dyes. To attached the straps I used buckles and D-rings bought on Amazon. No tooling this time, no need of antique, but I still used the trio Neatsfoot oil, resolene and tokonole for maintenance of the leather and resisting the dye. I used black zipper I found in my zipper drawers. A zipper drawers is definitely a thing when you do some crafting especially sewing too. I started with this leather hole puncher on the black leather piece attached to the zipper, but the smallest hole size was too big, so I bought this single hole size puncher and event this one, which are 1 and 2mm hole size respectively. While they are working, I eventually settled with this leather hole puncher which is easier to use when a lot of holes need to be done.
