I have used leather before to do an RPG (Dungeons and Dragons player handbook) book cover but I haven’t done leather craft before. I wanted to do it for years and finally started in April 2023.
I bought the Leather Mallorn Leaf Hair Stick pattern by SnappingDragon on Etsy and started to work on this project, mainly because it is a cool project inspired by Leaves of Lórien from The Lord of the Rings, and it is an easy one to do. I bought leather scrap bags from Artisanleather, and from Amazon I bought Fiebings green leather dye.
[#ads: All Amazon affiliation links in this article are items I really bought and used in my leathercraft].
The leather wasn’t very thick, I cut it all by hand, and it was the first time I used a swivel knife bought on amazon, so I didn’t really know what I was doing other than trying to carve the veins of the leaf. The results is not great in term of carving but it is ok, it was my first trial.
After letting the dye drying, I applied some Resolene bought from Abbey England, and treated the edge using Tokonole with an edge burnisher, both bought from Amazon. I struggled to find simple wooded pin for hair pin and eventually found a pack of 10 on Amazon too.
Despite being my first project and not so great in term of leather tooling, I very much enjoyed doing this project and it confirmed me that I wanted to continue leather work.
